The Caribbean Youth Film Festival in collaboration with Export Saint Lucia will launch a film competition dubbed “The COVID Diaries” taking place as part of the 2020 Caribbean Youth Film Festival (CYFF).
The goal of the competition is to raise awareness of the budding film industry and inspire film standards for local and regional filmmakers. This year Export Saint Lucia will sponsor the registration of the two top films from Saint Lucia at an upcoming film festival to be announced.
The COVID Diaries is the theme for the 2020 festival due to the undefined times in which we currently live. CYFF found it necessary to offer this conduit where youth can express how the epidemic has affected them psychologically—their views of themselves, their community, and the world.
Film makers are invited to submit 15-minute films, animations or documentaries on their impressions of the world during this period. The production can be fictional or non-fictional. The production can be shot on any device.
The film will be uploaded to an email address where the production will be judged by a panel of renowned filmmakers. The panel will select the winning film in two different categories: the 8 to 16 age group, and the 17 to 28 age group. The panel will also award films in other areas of Best Director, Best Script, Best Actor and People’s Choice. All films will be uploaded onto CUttv.net for viewing by the public two weeks prior to the awards ceremony. The public will vote for their favorite production. The deadline for receipt of film entries is Sep. 28.
The press launch will take place on Monday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Export Saint Lucia’s offices, and virtually via Zoom link.
