Carnival Bands Association Issues Statement On Carnival 2022

The Saint Lucia Carnival Bands Association notes with keen interest, the recent statement
regarding Carnival 2022, issued by the medical fraternity by way of widely circulated letter to the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industry, Culture and Information.

The Association shares similar concerns regarding the health and wellbeing of citizens, and
together with relevant government authorities, has carefully considered the implications of staging carnival 2022 without a mandatory vaccination regime in place.

The Association’s position is predicated on the following considerations:

1. Vaccination rates in Saint Lucia have been sluggish from inception, and as correctly
recognized by most medical professionals is unlikely to accelerate. Our observation is that
those persons predisposed to vaccination have already done so, while the remainder will
remain hesitant, irrespective. The economy can no longer be held hostage by such hesitancy.

2. Out of an abundance of caution, substantial measures are being put in place at venues, and events, and within participating bands to encourage patrons to take precautionary measures while attending the festival. This is by no means foolproof, but demonstrates a practical balance between responsibility and realism.

3. Approximately 65% of persons participating in approved events will be visitors to our island. Such persons typically stay for 7 days, and are required to show a negative Covid test and/or be fully vaccinated on entry. This further reduces risk to our domestic population.

4. As concerns the rest of the festival population, there are currently public events which routinely attract comparable crowds, the health implications of which we seem quite prepared to live with. Carnival should not bear the brunt of further incursions on personal liberty.

5. Public health policy most everywhere has transitioned away from draconian control toward coexistence with COVID. This transition is premised on the impact of potential spikes on national health systems. At this point, it would appear that even with rising cases, Saint Lucia’s hospitalization rates remain relatively low. The impact on the health system therefore remains manageable. Thus, science not sentiment prevails.
Our Association notes further:

6. The Arts, Entertainment and Events sector was the first to close and the last to open, and is therefore among the most adversely affected by this pandemic. We are therefore grateful for the collaboration of Government authorities in jointly devising an optimal festival strategy: one that balances risk and realism, albeit in less than perfect circumstances.

7. Finally, for many practitioners in our sector, the choice of lives versus livelihoods is not merely a conundrum. It remains a very real crisis of businesses closed, livelihoods lost, debts unpaid and income foregone. We are not unique in this respect, but in the absence other festival activities, it is crucial that we now respond rationally to market demand and opportunity. Our Association continues to do this.

As always, we welcome professional advice at all levels, and would be pleased to receive any further suggestions for health risk management, which can reasonably be applied, to Saint Lucian Carnival 2022.

  1. @ What a mess:-
Thank you, I see that you have spoken from the Heart; what is most striking is, when one has been spoken to – or when a people, as in this case – the Leaders of the people have been spoken to and refuses to listen, the people then turn to the ‘Higher Power’ then pray for His help, and if the earthly Leaders like Pharaoh refuses to listen, then look out – the heavens will be disturbed and mightily. ‘warning: don’t play games with the Almighty’
AS YOU RIGHTLY SAID: “we wait for when things get hard to pray, pray before it gets worst”.

  4. Continue hiding comments on Hilarious antics. I hope you all at SLNT and your family dont suffer the consequences of this man’s madness. I hope you all know that the other plandemic is already being spread. its monkey pox. tanto tanto

  5. Hi Liar who himself wrote this press release is ready to piss in you all eyes and call it rain. so he is heading this island. not anyone else. the medical association, the opposition and all concerned lucians should send the carnival association a cease and dessist letter through a lawyer or group of lawyers. copy it to the government of st lucia. and follow up court action date. I will be signing that letter as a st lucian. just put a copy and a link to sign it online.

  6. Look Belgium has become first country to introduce compulsory monkeypox quarantine According to UK news daily mail: Anyone testing positive must isolate for 21 days as 14 countries now confirm outbreaks and doctors warn of ‘significant rise’ in UK cases

Those who contract the virus will now have to self-isolate for three weeks, Belgian health authorities have said, after three cases were recorded in the country. (Courtesy daily mail).
But here we have some dumb people as leaders who have not seen this virus/disease as a threat to the tourism economy which can damage it like Covid did. For me I do not take their advice I am more intelligent than these so called leaders. Those who want to go jumb up street party or carnival go ahead. I’m not giving ordinary people power over me…. No way Jose’!

      • Although is it currently being spread predominantly amongst the g*y/bi community, anyone can be susceptible to it if exposed.

        Source – WHO

” Monkeypox is transmitted to humans through close contact with an infected person or animal, or with material contaminated with the virus. Monkeypox virus is transmitted from one person to another by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials such as bedding. ”

  7. Who’s the president of the carnival bands association? Apparently he/she will do whatever it takes to make that easy money and don’t give a dam about the people slp promise to put first…st lucians just have big mouths but they hearts are weak let’s protest against that crap we can see the danger ahead but the people we put to lead wanna drive us right through it…this country needs help.

  8. Bla, Bla, Bla All u really think PJP, Hilaire, Girard, Richard and the rest care about all u? Enjoy all u carnival Lucians. Lucia, A country with known Fraudsters, Liars at the helm. Mwen meme.

  9. In all this carnival marketing no one cares about the persons who are at risk, the elderly and those with underlying conditions. It seems that the general consensus is “they can die “. None of the powers that be are putting anything in place to protect the vulnerable. Several outbreaks in the schools and the MOE is silent. Even though we believe children generally do not get severely ill, there are children with underlying conditions. There are parents and grandparents with underlying conditions. Furthermore, health care sucks in this country. It is sad that absolutely nothing is being done to preserve the lives of EVERY citizen…. such a heartless society. If it doesn’t affect you then it is not significant.

  10. It will be a Monkey pox carnival. That is what the the visitors will bring to our island. Helaire doesn’t care if our island is plague with diseases once the visitors is bringing money. And then the USabd UK will put a travel ban on St Lucia. DO NOT TRAVEL DUE TO MONKEY POX.

  11. What about Monkey pox. Countries are taking precaution and Helaire and Musa are not mentioning anything about this disease. The disease is spreading rapidly and come July it could reach our shores then. Do these ministers care about our safety.

    • So far it appears to spread mostly via gay and bi-sexual males. Not saying there aren’t other means but all indicators appear to show it limited to that group for now.

  12. Here’s the real conundrum. The minister of health on one channel reading austere protocols, whilst the minister of tourism promoting carnival. PM somewhere eating a slice of banana bread

    • Same thing my husband and I just saying. No mass crowd events by cmo and Musa, whilst kenson and hilarious pushing mass and GI Friday night. Lucia is not a real place 🙂

  13. I miss de jump up, but arwhar not this year. Covid all over de place maysiay. Thaddeus bruh you have enough and you still getting it good under your padna. Cool out on de mass talk this year. People suffering enough brods

    • When you have a lawless government..who is ruling st.lucia a bunch of disobedient and bullies people are in the helm..where is the cmo?if our people don’t listen they will perish..wealth before health

  14. What exactly does this letter say? This letter is indeed a ‘conundrum’ to say the least. The slmda has espoused some salient considerations and these were not addressed in this letter. Where’s the minister in all this? There’s an obvious and glaring conflict of interest for the minister of tourism and those colleagues closest to him. Why push for carnival (a mass crowd event) in the midst of a pandemic? St. Lucians are still dying from covid. The numbers are rising daily. Why the push? An average of OVER one hundred cases daily in the past week and a half, however, we are promoting carnival? RECKLESS!!! SELF SERVING!!! Where’s the pm? The minister of health? Why aren’t they the face of this push? OUR PEOPLE ARE STILL DYING FROM COVID

    • You mean to tell after the warning from the president of the SLMDA, we are still pushing for that? Covid is no joke Mr. Minister of Tourism. I had it. Do you know what it is to not be able to breathe? SQUASH THAT CARNIVAL MESS. We don’t need this now. For once, follow the science.

      • The SLMDA president was saying vaxx mass only. That’s why nobody took her on cause she shooting kaka. Vaxx eh doing squat to covid and she knows it. If she doesn’t she should give up her licence cause she a dek dek.

  15. BS statement orchestrated by an avaricious minister who will do what he wants no matter what. The carnival bands are only interested in money and that’s a fact. Never once, knowing that your customer base falls into the age of group of people who make up the largest age group of the unvaxxed population, was any effort made to collaborate with the medical association in promoting a vaccination drive. For a business reliant on young persons they made absolutely no effort in ensuring that carnival would be safe for all. These young people that you are encouraging in reckless behavior go home to elder, high risk relatives who end up dying from covid. Yes we need to coexist with covid but that means ensuring that we do not have mass crowd events especially during a spike and that measures are in place to avoid the placing unnecessary burden on out already fragile healthcare system. Carnival is certainly not the way to coexist with covid

    • Vaccination drive for who exactly? Every tom dick and harry who has heard of these shots? And every tom dick and harry who have either taken those shots or decided not to risk it? You branch covidians really don’t want to let it go.

  16. See my previous dialogue comment seems to co-inside with the current statement. Realistically it is just a political sham with the SLMDA and Tourism… it simple bares no fruit!
