Women employed by the Castries Constituency Council (CCC) on Monday received grocery hampers through a collaboration involving the council, RISE St. Lucia Inc and Raj Communications.
The over 100 packages contained groceries.
The donation was in recognition of International Women’s Day.
Chairperson of RISE St. Lucia Inc, Dr. Venus Cherry, said such donations should be made more often.
‘I think every organisation in Saint Lucia should have some time in the month when they recognise their female employees for their hard work,” Cherry asserted.
He said the organisations should also recognise the spouses of men who work for them as RISE and Raj Communications were doing at the CCC.
Cherry lauded women for all they do in ensuring that the society runs smoothly.
Castries Mayor, Peterson Francis, also spoke during the handing over ceremony, lauding the contribution women make to the society
He called attention to the discrimination and other challenges women face.
But Francis declared that the CCC believes in an ‘unbiased’ workplace.
