Chamber concerned over armed attacks on goods vehicles

The Saint Lucia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture has expressed concern over attacks on goods vehicles by armed criminals.

Members of the private sector organisation who engage in  the sale of goods from vehicles held a meeting Friday to discuss their concerns with representatives of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).

The Executive Director of the Chamber, Brian Louisy, told St Lucia Times that the parties discussed how together, they can mitigate instances of crime.

“Members are concerned about it – there have been a number of incidents and we wish to arrest the situation before it becomes uncontrollable,” Louisy explained.

He observed that the armed attacks have occurred at various locations in Saint Lucia.

Just last month the driver of a bread van is reported to have fatally stabbed one of two men who held up his vehicle and demanded cash.

The incident occurred at Sarrot.
