Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has congratulated the Prime Minister of New Zealand on her reelection.
Jacinda Ardern won a landslide victory in her country’s general election which was originally to be held in September.
But the poll was postponed by a month after a renewed Covid-19 outbreak.
Ardern’s centre-left Labour Party won 49.1%, bringing a projected 64 seats and a rare outright parliamentary majority, according to the BBC.
The opposition centre-right National Party won 26.8% in Saturday’s poll – just 35 seats in the 120-seat assembly.
“Congratulations to a friend and champion for Small Island Developing States Hon. Jacinda Ardern on her victory and re-election as Prime Minister of New Zealand,” Prime Minister Chastanet said Saturday on his official Facebook page.
The post was accompanied by a file photo of the Saint Lucia Prime Minister and Ardern.
