Chastanet Criticises Government Over Sky FM Issue

Opposition leader Allen Chastanet has criticised the Government over the SKY FM issue, questioning the administration’s focus on shutting down the station instead of other matters.

“Instead of focusing on reducing the high levels of crime, the daily increases in the cost of living, the worsening economic situation and the fact that they haven’t been able to deliver on any of their promises to put more money in people’s pockets, the SLP’s focus on shutting down Sky FM,” Chastanet wrote on his official Facebook page.

He asserted that during 2016-2021, the UWP Administration endured daily attacks from Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) friendly media outlets.

According to the former Prime Minister, two of these media outlets owe huge sums to the agencies responsible for regulating Telecommunications on island.

” One media house owes over $400,000 and the other over $90,000 yet we never attempted to silence them. We live in a democratic country!” Chastanet declared.

He observed that Sky FM 93.1, generally pro-UWP, has been awaiting final approval from Stephenson King, the Minister for Telecommunications.

“It must be noted that recommendations were made by National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) to award a broadcasting license to Sky FM, that is until the minister hurriedly changed the NTRC board,” the United Workers Party (UWP) leader stated.

  1. Silence the media is not Democratic. Sad. It’s turning to a comunist party and socialistic norms for control and power like the Devil Trump. Lucians don’t like white folks so they kick. CHastenet

  2. So the former PM knew throughout his tenure that Sky Fm had no license but little was done to remedy the situation. His administration was busy telling other persons to get licenses for everything including making coals. We are in a very bad state in this country. Both administrations are responsible.

  3. Whining will not change anything if SkyFM is right take the NTRC and the Government to court. Anything else is just political expediency

  4. Tell king I say when he died take the frequency with him..I think he didn’t hurt skyfm fm announcers the elderly people that is hurting..he has to come out with the truth..but God is not sleeping king speak the truth and it will set you free..

  5. Instead they focus on creating jobs so we the youths won’t rob or kill people for they goods they appointing their old ass hacks in big positions to silence the voice of the poor people.

    • A people deserves a government that they get. We voted for it and for King. I’m so disgusted when I hear both King and Pierre repeat over and over that they are starting with Sky FM and then will deal with other illegally operating media after. Why not deal with all at the same time. Your dirty agenda is clear for everyone to see except that clown Lucian Freud Nograde.

  6. It really taunts me whether St Lucians are awake or in a dream. The Opposition leader is so correct as a die hard supporter of the Labor Party prices are being increased daily. How are we suppose to deal with all this high inflation on hand…??!!

    • @ANGEL. Now alone you’ll see prices going up. Prices have been going up on items, ever since the Corona Virus started two years ago. 1+ years into the former administrations reign but they did nothing to curb on it. As SLP in power now you’ll want to cry about inflation. Why Chasenet didn’t do something about it whilst in power. So stop with the biases.

  7. LOVE IT !! PAYBACK IS A BITCH. That’s right Papa King go Putin on those yellow clowns ass. You remember how they ridicule you during election because you abandon their sinking ship ?? I wish you could go further, all these “rabble rousers” that sit on a balcony all day like a blasted stole pigeon and spew their daily venom (they know themselves) they need to be SILENCED as well, we tired of them. A little micro totalitarianism is well needed when it comes to these Rag Media House’s in St Lucia.

  8. Lesson of the day: Pay your bills like everyone else. I am tired already. By the way, who said that any government can only done thing at a time?
