Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has been highlighting what he described as his administration’s ‘deliberate and strategic’ investments in sports.
“As a Government, we have made deliberate and strategic investments in sports which we hope will help improve the level and frequency of competitions, help develop world class athletes and serve as a vehicle for encouraging a culture of teamwork, co-operation and discouraging anti-social behavior,” Chastanet wrote Monday on his official Facebook page.
He noted that so far, the government has rehabilitated or upgraded playing facilities in Balata, Fond Assond, Jacmel, Canaries, La Guerre, La Fargue, Choiseul, La Clery and Wenn Playing Field in Micoud.
The PM disclosed that work is currently progressing into the final stages in preparation for the laying of the artificial turf surfaces at the National Sports Academy, Soufriere Mini Stadium, Micoud Playing Field and Dennery Playing Field.
He said that on Friday, he visited the Desruisseaux Playing Field which upon completion will include a Synthetic Turf Football Pitch, a Playground and supporting facilities
“The role of sports in developing healthy lifestyles and creating opportunities for rewarding careers should not be underestimated. Sports offers endless opportunities for creating employment and wealth as well as helping to foster national pride,” Chastanet asserted.
