PRESS RELEASE: Pre-schoolers and their teachers from three Early Childhood Learning Centres within the Choiseul District were guests of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa on Wednesday, 22nd November 2017 as part of the activities commemorating the United Nations’ Universal Children’s Day observed annually on 20 November. Coconut Bay’s annual observation of Universal Children’s Day is one of the resort’s many philanthropic initiatives focusing on children and education.
Thirty-four children from Juliana’s Pre School, La Fargue ECDC; and Reunion ECDC were treated to tasty and healthy snacks along with games at the CocoLand Kidz Klub, Splash fun at the Waterpark, and a visit to the animals at the Coco Coral Petting Zoo.
Ms. Juliana Edgar, Administrator of Juliana’s Pre-School in Delcer, Choiseul expressed the group’s satisfaction of the resort welcoming activities, “This is such a great gesture by Coconut Bay to bring joy and happiness to these children in commemoration of Universal Children’s Day. This visit is so significant as for some of these children a visit of this nature may be a unique and once in a life time opportunity. Such opportunities can impact the lives of children in profound ways”.
As part of its Corporate Social Outlook, Coconut Bay places particular emphasis on children as a social group and education as a sector. In doing so, the resort is identifying with the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child, Clause 7 which reads in part: “The child is entitled to receive education, which shall be free and compulsory, ……. He shall be given an education which will promote his general culture and enable him, on a basis of equal opportunity…”
The resort’s Cocoland Little Leaders Programme exemplifies the ideals of the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child and together with the commemoration of Universal Children’s Day demonstrates a commitment to building capacity for the future growth and development of St Lucia and the south of our nation in particular.
