The City of Dallas paid homage to slain Saint Lucian, Botham Jean on Tuesday, September 29th, by observing the day as #BeLikeBo Day.
“Here was a Black man who had done everything right and was in the comfort of his own home… and still was killed by someone in a police uniform,” Dallas Mayor, Eric Johnson stated in declaring the observance.
Johnson, according to local media reports, said that by giving back to his community, Jean set an example for all residents of Dallas can live by.
“I encourage everyone to be like Bo on his birthday this year and let the legacy of his short, bright life transcend the tragedy of his death,” CBS DFW quoted the Mayor as saying.
Botham Jean was born September 29, 1991 in Saint Lucia.
He would have observed his 29th birthday Tuesday.
The unarmed accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers was shot dead on September 6, 2018, by an off duty Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger, in his own apartment.
Guyger, who was subsequently fired from the police department and indicted for murder, claimed she mistook Jean’s apartment for hers and believed he was an intruder.
She was sentenced to 10 years in jail On October 2, 2019.
