A Saint Lucia clergyman has said that Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, was appointed to the office by God, according to a press release from the ruling United Workers Party (UWP).
The release attributed the comments to John Joseph of the Odsan Pentecostal Church (Temple of Faith).
You are appointed to this office by God, Divine appointment . . . . Remember that you are elected by the people. Always remember you must serve the people and work for them. You must be anointed by God. By yourself Honourable Ministers you cannot make it you need the power of God to do your duties,” Joseph was quoted as saying.
The occasion was a thanksgiving service Thursday to mark the ruling United Workers Party’s third year in government.
According to the UWP release, government Ministers, UWP Executive Members, Party supporters and well-wishers of the United Workers Party packed the church for the inspiring service which featured celebration in song and prayer.
It said the Pentecostal Church official anointed all the Ministers who came forward to receive the Blessing.
The UWP has announced plans to continue its anniversary observances with a public meeting in Soufriere on Sunday.
