As delegates gathered for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, former Saint Lucia Sustainable Development, Energy & Science Minister Dr. James (Jimmy) Fletcher has reflected on the progress made since COP21 in 2015.
While recalling his recent assertions that it was heartening to see 1.5 degrees Celsius now accepted and referenced in all reports as the long-term temperature goal, Fletcher announced in a Facebook post that’s where the good news ends.
“The walk has not matched the talk,” the former Minister asserted.
Instead, he observed that every year since 2015 has brought new bad climate records.
This year’s UN Climate Change Conference is being held in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, between 31 October and 12 November 2021, under the co-presidency of the United Kingdom and Italy.
