A Castries man made a suicide attempt near the Central Police station on Bridge Street on Wednesday, police say.
A law enforcement official told St Lucia Times that the Bocage resident drank a corrosive substance.
As a result, he collapsed on the sidewalk shortly afterwards.
“People are dealing with all types of issues these days,” the law enforcement official lamented.

However, the police said they had no idea what prompted the man’s action.
A photo on social media shows emergency responders in protective gear about to lift the patient, who is lying on a stretcher.
Police disclosed that an ambulance conveyed him to hospital.
But at the time he was in serious condition, they said.
