Courts St. Lucia 2016 National Reading Champion is Keshaun Alphonse

The Courts 2016 National Schools Reading Champion is none other than Miss Keshaun Alphonse from the Soufriere Primary School…

The competition, which is in its eighth year, was held on Friday October 14th at the CSA centre in Sans Souci under the esteemed patronage of Her Excellency, Dame Pearlette Louisy, Governor General of Saint Lucia and the Honorable Minister for Education, Dr. Gale T. C Rigobert.

Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development, The Courts Schools Reading competition saw finalist from Districts one to eight competing for the highly coveted $2000 in Cash plus $2000 for his/her school. In the end, Soufriere Primary’s Keshaun Alphonse was crowned the Courts St. Lucia Reading Champion 2016. With that title, Miss Alphonse will represent St. Lucia in St. Kitts and Nevis at the OECS finals where she will compete against champions from St. Vincent& the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Kitts, Antigua and host country Grenada for her chance at winning an additional $5000 in cash plus a laptop. The Soufriere Primary School will also receive an additional $5000 in cash. Miss Alphonse will also receive “One Year Free Internet Complements FLOW”.

2nd Runner up Miss Aiyanna Descartes from the Mon Repos Combined School walked away with $750 in cash and Mr Dre Etienne from the Laborie Boys Primary, 3rd Runner Up walked away with $500 in cash. Certificates of participation as well as complementary prizes were presented to the participants by Courts. The eight finalists also received a Smartphone each from Digicel – Be Extraordinary and an educational hamper from the Lions Club of Castries. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place trophies were also presented to the winners and were sponsored by the Trophy Centre. FLOW St. Lucia, presented the top three placements with an additional smartphone..
