COVID-19: Face Mask Rules, Passes To End In England

BBC News:– England’s Plan B measures are to end from next Thursday, with mandatory face coverings in public places and Covid passports both dropped, Boris Johnson has announced.

The prime minister also said the government would immediately drop its advice for people to work from home.

The PM said England was reverting to “Plan A” due to boosters and how people had followed Plan B measures.

He told MPs scientists believed the Omicron wave had peaked nationally.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid, who is holding a Downing Street press conference, said: “This is a moment we can all be proud of.

“It’s a reminder of what this country can accomplish when we all work together.”

But, he said, this should not be seen as the “finish line” because the virus and future variants cannot be eradicated – instead “we must learn to live with Covid in the same way we live with flu”.

He urged people to continuing taking steps to keep the virus at bay, including hand washing, ventilating rooms and self-isolating if positive – and pressed those who were unvaccinated to come forward to get their jabs.

Earlier, in a statement to MPs in the House of Commons, the prime minister said:

  • Mandatory Covid passports for entering nightclubs and large events would end, though organisations could choose to use the NHS Covid pass if they wished
  • People would no longer be advised to work from home and should discuss their return to offices with employers
  • Face masks will no longer be mandated, though people are still advised to wear coverings in enclosed or crowded spaces and when meeting strangers
  • From Thursday, secondary school pupils will no longer have to wear face masks in classrooms and government guidance on their use in communal areas would be removed “shortly”

Boris Johnson also said the government intended to end the legal requirement for people who test positive for Covid to self-isolate – and replace it with advice and guidance.

The current regulations around self-isolation expire on 24 March. Mr Johnson said he expected not to renew them then – and suggested that date could be brought forward if the data allows.

Further announcements on the easing of travel rules and restrictions on care home visits in England are expected in the coming days, Mr Johnson added.

  1. Angel is suffering from Mass Formation (Psychosis/Hypnosis). Despite all the data thrown at these Branch Covidians they continue to resist fact that these shots have failed. Government policy have failed. The one you worship, Dr. Faucistein, has stated clearly that this will never go away yet you blame smarter people than you who saw through the smoke and mirrors for spreading this. You’re a guinea pig that will continue to enrich the shareholders of Pfizer with the health misery you will suffer with the health problems you will develop.

BTW here’s more fact for you.

“huge majority of the British people think it has all been worth it, and absolutely necessary due to the fear propaganda that has played on a 24/7 loop on their television screens, and headlined every newspaper over the past two years.

Because the British public have been led to believe that over one-hundred-and-fifty-thousand [150,000] people have died of Covid-19, and they’ve been told that number would have been much higher if they had not complied with the destruction of the economy and decimation of their lives.

But now we can confirm without a shadow of a doubt that the 150k number is an outright lie thanks to a recent response to a Freedom of Information Request made to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), in which the ONS confirms that just 17,371 people have died of Covid-19 over the past two years.

  2. @angel the main reason the pm of England Is dropping all those mandates etc caused the jokes on them politicians and science numbers don’t lie the vaccinated people are spreading the coronvirus more than the unvaccinated people, some people even got 5 or more jabs still didn’t do anything.

  3. angel is the definition of a retard.
this female typing away like he has a doctrate shut your internet theory jaw up n go make some money

  4. @ I eyes what u saying

    I don’t dictate how long we should wear a mask in public/gatherings, the virus and our behaviour does. Read up on airborne diseases;

    https://www.webmd.com/lung/what-are-airborne-diseases

Personally, I take no pleasure in having to wear a mask, it’s annoying. But it’s what I need to do in order to protect myself and others.

Of course we vaxxed are worried. For the most part, the unvaxxed are unnecessarily prolonging this pandemic and are the very reason why we have to keep wearing a mask and having our freedom restricted. Get vaxxed ( if you are not immunocompromised ), and help bring this pandemic under control. x

  5. @ Oh Really, I think that most places have fared well in terms of lower death rates with the Omicron, due to several factors.

We currently have a much higher vaccination rate than we did in the Delta wave, also, Omicron arrived on the heels of Delta. There was some level of immunity from the recent Delta infection to offer protection for some in this new wave. The mitigation measures that was re-introduced sure helped also.

Of course at the end of every wave measures are relaxed a bit. But I’m afraid the measures mentioned in the article seems more like ” let’s accept this thing as normal “.

Like you said, stats shows that majority of the hospitalization and deaths are currently occurring in the unvaccinated. The vaccine is not perfect, but no doubt it’s been a great help to us in radically reducing severe illness and death for most – a saving grace really.

We all want to get back to our normal lives, but as long as people keep making decisions lacking common sense, we’ll keep being in this precarious position going around in circle for at least the near future. Stay safe. x

  6. Angel suffering by juke remorse. Promised a cure yet still get and die from the rona. It is easier to fool someone than it is to convince them they have been fooled.

  7. angel u expect ppl to continue to wear masks all the time like that??? ppl like u vaxxed and still worried….why???

  8. @Angel, I agree with you on somethings and yes maybe there’s some politics but the science is strong with opening up in March. Each wave usually lasts about 4 months and you should see omicron going out around then. People especially the ones dying right now don’t want the vaccines don’t want to wear masks so we have to get on with life. I actually find that the UK has fared well with omicron compared to Delta which killed over a 1000 persons daily.

  9. Boris is plagued by scandal and is falling out of favor with the country. These decisions seems more political based so as to gain favor with he public, as opposed to Science. Currently, the country is averaging almost 100,000 cases per day, and almost 300 deaths per day due to Covid. Deaths have increased by 107% in the last two weeks, so I really do not get the rational for their decision. Well before Spring, we will see how this decision is working out.
