COVID-19: ‘New Variants Of Concern’ Confirmed, CMO Says Public Reluctant To Get Tested

As Saint Lucia continues to register COVID-19 cases daily during the past week, Chief Medical Officer Dr. (CMO) Sharon Belmar- George has disclosed the underreporting of infections.

“This past week we continue to register cases daily. These are underreported as we note the reluctance of the public to get tested,” Belmar-George disclosed in a statement on Thursday.

In addition, the CMO said the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) had confirmed the presence of two other new variants of concern – BA4 and BF5 in the country.

Concerning Monkeypox, Belmar-George said that the Ministry of Health had strengthened the public health system concerning early detection, surveillance, treatment, isolation, contact tracing, and testing.

And she revealed that Saint Lucia can now test for Monkeypox in the country at the Ezra Long Laboratory.

At the same time, the CMO said that the Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs had received Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) reports from some healthcare providers on the island.

Belmar-George explained that Saint Lucia records HFMD cases yearly, and early interventions usually limit transmission.

  1. Meanwhile, the CDC is doing away with all the COnVID-19 protocols and St. Lucia’s more-moronic-than-Omicron CMO continues to toe the line.

    • I told some health professionals ( at an ivy league medical school) that I needed a PCR test for my 6 yr old daughter to fly to Saint Lucia and they laughed–i was even more ashamed when they asked whether i needed one as the mother and i answered NO.

  2. I agree, wake up to the BS, stop being obedient sheep. Many countries, like Costa Rica NO LONGER REQUIRE VACCINES AT ALL, NOT TO CITIZENS, NOT TO VISITORS.
We know it is the U.S still paying off little countries, Like St. Lucia to keep up the act. After all they have many more vaccines to pass out .

    • Just having travelled myself I can attest to that. You just waltz in many other countries like the good ole days. Coming back to St. Lucia you have to go through some BS. I asked the health attendant why we still going through this clown show. She rolled her eyes in disgust that this was still a thing. The people know better but it is idiots like the CMO and the higher ups that pushing this trash.

  4. Thats because they saw pass the BS. The media has blown this WAY out of proportion and those STILL adamant on pushing the vaccine as the way to get pass this will get what is coming to them, that includes the media, their personnel, radio personnel, members of the health ministry and the WHOLE lot. All they did was ECHO what the WHO and CDC told them, keep a quotation in mind ” Why let a good chaos go to waste”. There are people praying this never ends because they have since gotten filthy rich, so ofcourse some chump change to keep the PANDEMIC rolling is a must.

    WAKE UP!

    MOVE ON!

STAND UP! to the BULLSHIT and think for yourself, you have internet access, compare credible sources of information it outweighs what they have been telling you for the past two and a half years.

    WAKE UP!

    • IKR. Every pandemic except this one ended in under 2 years. Even far deadlier ones like the Russian Flu and Spanish Flu. 2-3 waves and story done. This one seems to have unlimited number of waves like you’re at the beach. It is the grift that keeps on giving.

  5. We never tested for the cold/flu before now did we? More people are seeing through this farce. Something about if you give government power during emergencies, they will keep creating emergencies to retain that power.
