COVID-19: Peter Isaac Advocates Tougher Measures To Bring Down Infections

The President of the Saint Lucia Craft and Dry Goods Vendors Association, Peter ‘Ras Ipa’ Isaac, believes tougher measures are needed to address the current surge in COVID-19 cases in Saint Lucia.

“”The way these numbers are climbing, we need to take some tougher measures to curtail the figures and I am saying that if these measures are taken, it would only be for the good of trying to bring down the figures,” Isaac asserted.

In commenting on the impact  recent adjusted COVID-19 protocols have had on members of  his  organisation, the Vendors Association President disclosed that the vendors who are mostly affected are those at the provisions market.

But he explained that dry goods vendors are not really affected that much.

“Especially we have this curfew starting from Saturday. It gives people a chance to at least have some business during the course of the week and then the weekend. The persons it may affect a bit more, especially if it’s starting on a Friday or a Saturday, are vendors in the provisions market. Maybe when they were expecting that maybe five, six O’ clock on a Saturday they would be trying to get rid of some of their produce, that’s the time they have to be preparing themselves to get home by that time,” Isaac told St Lucia Times on Tuesday.

“But I am sure vendors are understanding. It’s for their own good because some people have been flaunting the protocols – they have not been doing the right thing and as a result, they have to put some stringent measures in place,” he observed.

He made it clear that he was not indicating that the COVID-19 protocols are not affecting vendors.

However, Isaac said people understand why the measures are being put in place.

“And it would be all for our good if we could all follow the protocols and do the right thing so the numbers could go down and we could have more leeway to conduct our business,” he told St Lucia Times.
