Opposition leader, Philip J. Pierre, supports Islandwide testing for COVID-19, declaring that expanding testing for the virus will be a top priority for a Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration in the battle against the virus.
He spoke during Chill and Chat, hosted by Maundy Lewis on Choice Television.
“Why can’t we have Islandwide testing – like on Saturday a van passes testing people?” The SLP leader asked.
But he also asserted that the authorities must bring the conditions at isolation facilities up to standard.
Pierre explained that once that happens, COVID positive individuals will know that they will not be treated like prisoners.
“They will be treated humanely,” he stated.
“Trust is the word,” Pierre declared.
And he promised that under a labour administration, nurses and tourism workers will get their $4,000 tax free.
As a result, he stated that they will have more money in their pockets.
“So they will work a little harder because their money will not go to the government,” he stated.
“All the nurses, all the health care workers who get less than four thousand dollars a month will pay no tax under the SLP and the tourism workers also,” he said.
