Saint Lucia’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr.Sharon Belmar-George, has disclosed that although daily cases continue to be high this week, the seven-day average approximation suggests a leveling off pointing to the plateau in the epidemiological curve.

“We are beginning to see reductions in some of the public health indicators,” she explained in a statement Monday.

According to the CMO, the daily infection rate for the last seven days was 164.4 per 100,000 population per day, representing a 10% reduction from last week, with a 39% average testing positivity rate and a transmission rate of 3.1.

Nevertheless, Belmar-George reiterated appeals to everyone to strengthen all public health measures.

She explained that Saint Lucia has not yet received gene sequencing results from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).

However, there’s suspicion that the Omicron variant, characterised by high transmission levels, is present.

At the same time, the CMO observed that the Delta Variant is still circulating locally.

” The high number of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis noted at this point has the capacity to increase nhospitalisations, deaths and productivity in the work place. We appeal to all organizations, public and private sector to ensure the strengthening of all public health protocols,” Belmar-George said.

As of January 23, 2022, Saint Lucia has diagnosed 19,680 COVID-19 cases, with 4,233 active cases presently.

The country has recorded 318 COVID-19 deaths., while 53 positive are at the Respiratory Hospital, 1 case is critically ill, and five are severely ill.

Belmar-George said since the fifth wave began on December 16, 2021, there have been 6,551 cases with an average of 172 per day.

  1. There is a drop in numbers because we are fazzing out on a global basis. Now hold them accountable for your foolishness. Lol the science the science

  2. @Doc = Idiot first class! Your stupidity knows no bounds. Wish that you would have been one of the six today.

  3. “150k Covid-19 Deaths? – The ONS state in black and white that just 17,000 people have died of Covid-19 [without other health issues] in the past 2 years”

When are we going to revise the numbers here?

  4. Why do you think there was a sudden drop? Why can’t you elaborate more? Is it because less people are testing? Information coming from the authorities most times are too brief. Which group of people had more of the infections? Is is school children, adolescents, the working class. Don’t just come and say there is a drop and full stop and we suppose to be happy. What made the cases drop significantly since many people still do not adhere to the protocols. Was it just cases of influenza we were experiencing and there could be false positives of Corona? The ministry changed its strategy of testing last week. Was this a contributing factor for the cases going down? I hope we do not have another spike soon and we can get to enjoy life better.

  5. @ Hospitalization & Death. I totally agree with you. She should have made that statement as a warning when the cases STARTED increasing. Now that it’s actually happening she should have specifically stated that.

  7. I’m an educator and for sometime now I notice our CMO is on some serious drugs or has become an alcoholic. Who is this woman trying to fool with her retric. The number of positive cases continue to remain high and continue to increase yet she is telling us the numbers are dropping. From 200+ to 300+ to 400+ cannot be a drop. If so be the case we need to exhume all our old teachers and sue them for mal-practice cause we were misled. The positivity rate continues to be higher than it has ever been and in less than a week the number of persons in care at the respiratory hospital moved from 20 to 53. What is there to celebrate about and the jackass low grade who about 6 months ago saw the CMO as a fake and fraud is now singing her praise.

  8. ” The high number of COVID-19 cases on a daily basis noted at this point has the capacity to increase hospitalisations, deaths ……”

No my CMO. From your past reports you have been specifically stating that here has been no increase in hospitalization and death. Why haven’t you, at this point, specifically state that there is an increase in hospitalization and death? I hoping they are not forcing you to make your science political.

  9. What a bunch of nonsense! “Covid-19” is nothing but a fraud which never existed in the first place, so they can just manipulate the numbers however they want..
