Prime Minister, Allen Chastanet, has condemned as despicable, a series of reported break-ins during the passage of Tropical Storm Matthew.

On a tour of several storm ravaged areas yesterday, Chastanet said:

“I think it is a poor reflection of who we are as a people.”

The Prime Minister asserted that the good thing is that everyone knows that a small group of people was responsible for perpetrating “these disrespectful acts.”

He said to steal from the schools was “beyond” him.

Chastanet expressed the hope that the police would be able to apprehend the individuals to allow the justice system to take care of them.

A number of business places and other establishments were broken into by bandits as Tropical Storm Matthew bore down on Saint Lucia.

In one case the bandits appeared to have used the cover of darkness during a power outage in the City, to break into a store on St Louis Street where they removed two coolers containing liquor.

In another instance they broke into the Computer Store in the American Drywall building by smashing party of the glass front of the business place.

The intruders made off with an undisclosed number of items from the store.
