Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson has cautioned against speculation following the murder of a key witness in the Amber Guyger murder trial, according to media reports.
Joshua Brown was a neighbour of Saint Lucian native, Botham Jean, whom Guyger shot dead in September last year, claiming she mistook Jean’s apartment for hers.
Brown himself was gunned down on Friday night, resulting in a wave of speculation regarding whether his murder was linked to the testimony he gave in the trial in which Guyger was sentenced to ten years in jail.
The Dallas Morning News quoted the City’s elected officials including the Mayor as urging patience amid the probe into Brown’s death.
“Until we know more about this incident, I encourage everyone to refrain from speculation,” Mayor Johnson said in a statement, according to the publication.
The US television network said Brown’s testimony during Guyger’s murder trial was key because he was able to describe the former officer’s actions immediately after she killed Jean.
