Dallas City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to rename part of S Lamar Street after slain Saint Lucian, Botham Jean.
The street runs in front of Jack Evans Police Headquarters and the apartment complex where Jean lived and died.
An off duty police officer, Amber Guyger, fatally shot the 26 year Botham Jean.
He was in his own apartment at the time.
But Guyger claimed she mistook Jean’s apartment for hers because they lived on different floors of the same complex.
However, a court sentenced her to ten years in jail in connection with the September 2018 incident.
Petitioners had submitted a request in July 2020.
It called for S Lamar Street from Interstate 30 to S. Central Expressway to be renamed Botham Jean Boulevard.
