Daren Sammy took to Twitter this week to lament the lack of a ‘proper send off’ for teenage Olympian Mikaili Charlemagne who has left to represent this country in Tokyo.
“Imagine an 18 year old Olympian left our shores to represent us in Tokyo but we are so engrossed in politics not even an acknowledgement or proper send off. How can we motivate the next generation when we constantly make them feel unappreciated when they represent Saint Lucia?” The two time T20 World Cup winning captain wrote.
“To Mikaili Charlemagne I say I’m proud of you and all the best in your first Olympic games, once you can imagine it, believe it, you can achieve it. God be with you,” Sammy concluded.
Charlemagne, who departed Saint Lucia on Sunday, will compete in the women’s 50 metre freestyle swimming event at the Tokyo Olympics.
