Daren Sammy Set For Super League T20 Return

Saint Lucia’s Daren Sammy, captain of Peshawar Zalmi, has been retained for the 5th edition of Pakistan Super League.

The tournament will run 20 February-22 March 2020, and will be held entirely in Pakistan. #PSL5.

Sammy joins West Indies T20 and ODI captain Kieron Pollard as players retained by Peshawar Zalmi, whilst fellow West Indies players Andre Fletcher and Lendl Simmons were released.

Retained (7 players): Hasan Ali, Kieron Pollard, Wahab Riaz (all Platinum), Kamran Akmal (Diamond, Brand Ambassador), Darren Sammy (Gold, Player Mentor), Imam-ul-Haq (Gold), Umar Amin (Silver)

Released: Andre Fletcher, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Ibtesam Sheikh, Jamal Anwar, Khalid Usman, Lendl Simmons, Liam Dawson, Misbah-ul-Haq (not available in 2020), Nabi Gul, Sameen Gul, Samiullah, Sohaib Maqsood, Tymal Mills, Umaid Asif, Waqar Salamkheil, Wayne Madsen

Unfortunately, Saint Lucian opening batsman Johnson Charles was also released by the Multan Sultans. The 30-year-old Charles made 208 runs from just seven matches for Sultans in the 2019 season, averaging 34.66 with two half-centuries. He came on as a replacement player for fellow West Indian, Nicholas Pooran. In 153 T20 matches, Charles has amassed 3730, hitting 23 50’s and a 100, averaging 25.20 with a 125.97 strike rate.
