Police Commissioner, Milton Desir, has cited the need for speedy court trials so that whenever individuals are convicted it could deter others from committing crime.
“But when persons are being arrested and there’s nothing much out of it, I believe the situation remains and it does not deter persons from the commission of crimes,” he told reporters here last week.
He disclosed that the matter is being discussed.
However the Police Commissioner pointed to the separation of powers where the judiciary would act independently.
“It’s a holistic approach and I think everybody who is involved, I think we need to put our best foot forward to ensure that crime is reduced,” Desir stated.
