Former Saint Lucia Prime Minister, Dr. Kenny Anthony, has described as a joy and an honour, meeting 108-year old Ms. Octavie Augustine of Mongouge, Choiseul.
The Vieux Fort South MP disclosed in a post on his official Facebook page that Ms. Augustine will be 109 on August 14, 2021.
Anthony said the visit was arranged by her granddaughter who explained that the centenarian wanted to see him ‘before her departure from this earth’.
“Ms. Augustine is sharp, witty and hospitable. She insisted that I did not leave without having a drink and lamented that she was unable to give me any sweet potatoes to return home because the land is now bare,” the former Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) leader recalled.
“She engaged me about the politics, shared her memories of SLP meetings and my family and spoke about how the community changed over time. She even has pet names for some of our talk show personalities,” he stated.
Anthony said he felt blessed that Ms. Augustine wanted to share her time, knowledge and memories with him.
“May God continue to bless and guide her,” his Facebook post concluded.
