The Unity Labour Party (ULP) of Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has won general elections in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and a fifth term in office, local reports say.
The media announced the victory shortly before 11.00 pm Thursday night.
According to the reports, the ULP retained its eight parliamentary seats and picked up one additional seat in North Leeward.
Fifteen parliamentary seats were at stake.
The 74-year old Gonsalves called on his countrymen to celebrate the victory in peace and maturity.
“Now is the time to come together as one nation to address our developmental challenges and move forward to uplift our nation and it’s people,” he declared.
In some constituencies, the results were particularly tight.
The opposition NDP went into Thursday’s poll with with Dr. Godwin Friday leading the party for the first time after replacing Arnhim Eustace as the leader.
