An early morning fire Friday destroyed a dwelling house at Arundel Hill, Marchand, Castries.
Acting Assistant Divisional Officer for the Northern Division of the Saint Lucia Fire Service, Anwar Deterville, says the fire service received a call for help at 5.55 am.
He said a crew from Fire Service headquarters responded at 5:56 am.
“On arrival at the scene they encountered a 20 by 40 foot wooden and concrete structure which was already fully engulfed in flames,” the senior fire service official stated.
He said that the fire service crew went to work, but the flames destroyed the house and its contents.
“The crew was able to contain the fire so that it did not spread to other dwelling houses,” he recalled.
According to Deterville, the occupant of the house indicated that the fire started at the front of the building and spread.
An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
