The former Premier of Cayman Islands McKeeva Bush has been arrested in the US State of Florida on allegations of battery, according to media reports.
Bush, who is currently Speaker of the House of Assembly in Cayman Islands, was arrested on Monday evening near a casino in Coconut Creek, Florida. His mugshot has appeared online, according to the Cayman Reporter.
“The arrest followed an interview with and sworn statement by the female employee victim and a review of surveillance video,” a spokesman for the Seminole Police Department, Gary Bitner said.
According to the arresting officer, the surveillance video showed Mr. Bush allegedly wrapped his arm around the victim’s lower back and forcefully pulled the victim towards his direction.
“According to the arresting officer, the victim alleged [Mr. Bush] grabbed her buttocks while pulling her with his right arm.”
Mr. Bush, the former premier of the Cayman Islands, was overwhelmingly re-elected in West Bay during Cayman’s general election in May. He was contacted by the Cayman Compass but declined to comment, saying only that he would be making a statement later.
