National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis, has urged members of the public to be patient with members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) as they grapple with crime.

Francis disclosed that he has spoken with the Police Commissioner and the Deputy Police Commissioner as well as senior officers, asserting that they are the ones  who have to devise a plan to deal with an upsurge in gang violence and the use of firearms.

“I think they have a plan and we have to be patient with the police because the police cannot be everywhere at all times,”  the former Deputy Police Commissioner said.

He noted that there was need to appeal to members of the public that they must take umbrage to what is happening and report any suspicions they have to law enforcers.

Francis asserted that in this way, the police can move in to prevent what he described as “unnecessary deaths.”

In addition to a recent spate of gangland style shootings, the capital city of Castries has also recorded a series of break ins at various business places.

Francis revealed that  police CCTV cameras are not working.

He indicated that there were a number of reasons why, including the fact that the cameras are affected whenever there is a fluctuation in electricity or a power outage.

Francis revealed that there are plans to power the cameras  with solar electricity.

“We are trying to source that as soon as possible,” he explained.
