Five hundred boxes of fresh produce were delivered to vulnerable families across the island Friday.
According to Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, every week 6,000 pounds of local produce is bought directly from local farmers, fishermen and chicken producers to support the programme, dubbed the ‘Good Food’ initiative.
It forms part of the National Meals Programme as one component of Saint Lucia’s COVID-19 Relief strategy, Chastanet noted on his official Facebook page.
The ‘Good Food’ initiative was launched on Wednesday June 10th, 2020.
According to the PM, it will not only serve as a wholesome option to feed households, but also function as a new supply outlet for farmers who have been displaced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
