The Police Welfare Association (PWA) has signalled its intention to write Police Commissioner, Severin Moncherry, requesting an end to the probe into allegations that a Woman Police Officer (WPC), acted in an insubordinate manner towards National Security Minister, Hermangild Francis.
” We will be writing the Police Commissioner asking for an immediate discontinuation of this investigation, since the minister has admitted that he understands protocol and the chain of command of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force in an article of St Lucia Times on August 16, 2018,” PWA President, Travis Chicot told a news conference Monday.
“Having conducted our own investigations, we stand firmly in solidarity with the police officer and will provide her with the necessary support,” he said.
The PWA President declared that the constitution gives the Police Commissioner authority over the operations of the force.
“No individual, whether politician or otherwise’ should use his or her office to influence or appear to influence the daily operations if the police officer,” Chicot asserted.
Monday’s news conference followed an executive meeting of the PWA.
