Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart Dies At 79

Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart has died at the age of 79.

Stewart was the founder of the  award-winning Sandals and Beaches resorts.

His son, Adam Stewart, described the Caribbean hotelier’s death as ‘almost unbelievable’.

The son explained that his father chose to keep his recent health diagnosis private.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet said Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart was undoubtedly a Caribbean icon and legend.

On his official Facebook page, he praised Stewart’s vision, hard work and marketing genius.

According to Chastanet, those qualities helped solidify the Caribbean brand internationally over the last 30 years.

“I will forever cherish his wisdom, his love for Saint Lucia, his faith in the potential of our amazing people and his confidence in the Caribbean brand,” the Saint Lucia PM stated.
