(This story has been updated. Click here to read) The Secretary of the Gros Islet Minibus Association, Hermia Lorde, was shot dead Saturday morning in Castries at the Gros Islet minibus stand, police have confirmed.
The shooting occurred after 7:00 am in full view of early morning commuters.
According to the police, Lorde, originally of Corinth, was residing in Babonneau.
Lorde was shot multiple times by a lone gunman who fled afterwards, according to an eyewitness.
Her violent death has sent shockwaves through the minibus fraternity which has been plunged into mourning.
A representative of the umbrella National Council on Public Transportation (NCOPT) expressed condolences to the family and outrage over the fact that once again, violent criminals have snuffed out a life in broad daylight in the capital.
