A 66 year old Haitian asylum seeker who had been living in Canada for several years, was on Wednesday found guilty of raping a seven year old girl, reports say.
The man has been identified as Marcel Casseus.
According to media reports, he was imprisoned since his arrest on July 18 on suspicion of sexually assaulting the child and will be deported on completion of his sentence.
Casseus pleaded guilty to the charge and in addition to jail time, he will be registered in the register of sexual predators for twenty years.
He is reported to have won the trust of a family in Montreal where he sometimes looked after the children when the parents had to be away.
According to court documents, while caring for the seven year old girl, he was caught in the act of raping the child by the minor’s 14 year old sister, who called their mother at work.
Following the incident, Casseus fled and was on the run for three days before being arrested.
