Press Release:-  History was made at dawn on Saturday January 13th when the Anthem of the Seas became the largest cruise ship to sail into Port Castries. Its accommodation was made possible by the completion of extension works at Berth #1 at Pointe Seraphine.

The US$18.8 million dollar project, constructed by Dutch company Ballast Nedam, saw the extension of Berth #1 by 164 feet, at a width of 40 feet with the installation of an additional bollard for anchoring the ship on the concrete extension.

A high capacity foam-filled fender was also added. Three mooring dolphins were constructed allowing mega cruise ships like the Anthem of the Seas to be berthed safely and securely. The extension and dolphin berths are secured by 76 piles driven deep into the seabed and fortified by sea concrete.

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority [SLASPA] says this is the largest investment it has made in 20 years. The US18.8 million dollar project was financed through the National Insurance Corporation. It was completed within budget and on time.

Stilt walkers, dancers and Steelband music welcomed the 4200 passengers who came in with the Anthem of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean Cruises. The local agents are Platinum/Foster & Ince.

The extension of port facilities at Pointe Seraphine will see mega ships visiting Port Castries bringing in thousands of passengers with each call.

  1. Congrats SLASPA, pity the PPP Hewanorra project wasn’t contracted January 2016 as was planned, now we would also be celebrating the upgrade of the airport, and possibly higher visitor entries.

    • New Testament Verse of the Day:
Then he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.”

      –Matthew 18:3

  2. This has not resulted in any increased spending. Who is making the money in tourism? Certainly not the small man!

    • ohhh shut upp. If it was not done people would be complaining. You people criticize too much and complain for everything. why don’t you see the positive in the initiative being done with the upgrade. people like you are the reason st.lucia is so backward.

    • Up next will be the extension of the wharf to Bananes bay, there is much more space for the docking of cruise ships.

  3. Give credit when credit is due. Commendation to the relevant authorities for making this happen. My earnest wish is everything that is done by the government would redound to the benefit of all citizens.

  4. I also say amen to the last comment I pray the entire country benefit from bigger and more cruise ships . Am looking toward better education, health care, and economy for all the people.
