Health and Wellness Minister, Mary Isaac, has expressed the view that Saint Lucia has ‘again’ been able to contain the COVID-19 virus.

Senator Isaac was responding this week to a reporter’s question regarding how this country has handled the COVID-19 pandemic, as the year 2020 draws to a close.

“Let’s say that now, I can breathe comfortably,” the Minister stated.

“I believe that we have contained the virus again. At the beginning we did before the spike and that was great,” Isaac declared.

She told reporters that workers had done a phenomenal job in containing the virus.

“We are at a point now where we can say we have it under control sufficiently so we can relax a little, and this is why we have relaxed the protocols for the Christmas season,” the Minister stated.

However she made it clear that should anyone put the country more at risk, the authorities will have to ‘roll back.’

“Where we are now, we are at a very comfortable place. We believe that the majority of people are following the protocols, they are wearing their masks, they are making sure that they are protecting each other – we expect that to continue throughout the Christmas season,” Isaac told reporters.

The Ministry of Health Thursday disclosed that the total number of COVID-19 cases diagnosed in country was 280.

According to a Ministry statement, the latest patient is a 33 year old female from the Gros Islet district.
