Heavily armed police intercepted a rented vehicle at Rodney Bay, Gros Islet, Wednesday evening about 7:00 p.m. and took two robbery suspects into custody, law enforcement officials say.
A video posted on social media showed three police officers in civilian clothing with rifles at the ready surrounding a silver grey car and ordering the occupants out.
“Keep your hands up! Keep your hands up!” One of the officers commands, as one male individual exits the vehicle, followed by another.
Law enforcement officials told St Lucia Times that both men are Castries residents, one of them being a known career criminal who is fresh out of jail.
The men are suspected of using a vehicle they rented to go to Au Tabor, Anse La Raye, to commit a robbery.
A police source explained that alert residents sounded an alarm on the basis of which law enforcers were able to intercept the rented vehicle the suspects were using as they attempted to return it.
It was not immediately clear whether the suspects were armed at the time their vehicle was intercepted.
Both men are currently in police custody.
