Help wanted in locating an old friend

Good afternoon,

This is going to sound weird and I have limited information. My name is David Freeman I am from Richmond Virginia and am 36 years old when I was about 6 years old I spent about a month in MCV hospital.

I was in a room with a boy from St. Lucia named Leo I do not remember his last name since I was so young I can assume Charley based on the envelope.

He was flown up to Virginia for open heart surgery at MCV I remember the scar on his chest. Anyways I am now attempting to locate him because my mom was cleaning out her closet and found a letter from 1988 from Cecile Charley and Leo to me and my mother.

My mother often went to lunch and took her around Richmond since she did not know anyone. I believe Cecile was his sister my mother believes she was his mother. The letter was very nice indicated how grateful she was to our family for looking out for her while she was here. It also indicated she was expecting and if it was a boy they would name him David and if it was a girl name her Kathy after my mother.

Long story short seeing this envelope and reading their letter brought back a lot of memories of him.

We kept each other company and played games in the hospital. It snowed while they were here and I remember it was the first time he had actually seen snow. I have a lot of fond memories about him and Cecile. I just wanted to know how I could locate him? I have searched everywhere online used various searches and have had no luck. Is there anything you could recommend?

I figured this is worth a shot I am about out of ideas.

  1. The last name on the envelope is Charlery not Charley. Charlery is in fact a St. Lucian name. If you try searching under Charlery several Leo’s come up. Good luck with this.

  2. Sorry to inform that Leo is in a better place now and that His sister is doing g very well.

  3. Hello David, first of all this is a very touching story. The people you are looking for are Leo and Cecile Charlery. There were indeed broth and sister.

Unfortunately, I am sorry to say Leo has moved on, he did so maybe about 15 years ago. However it is possible for you and your mom to reunite with his sister Cecile.

I came across this story on facebook. His family seem very touched by your letter and attempt to find him. So hopefully one of his family members will reach out to you via email.

  4. Thank you all for the information on Leo and his family. I am truly grateful for all of the response. I have had many members of his family reach out to me already via email and phone. I am very sorry and saddened to hear of Leo’s passing. I have been in touch with his niece who is providing contact information for Cecile.

    Thank you all again

  5. Very nice. Even without the letter, sometimes you remember people you grew up with. Then you wonder, ‘where is so and so…?’ Better to hear they are doing well. But such is life. A friendship regained.
