The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA) Sunday announced the temporary closure of the runway at Hewanorra International Airport, citing ‘a minor failure in the asphalt surface.’
“As a result, the decision has been taken to suspend operations as of 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, 19th September 2021. Consequently, the departure of Jet Blue Flight #882 to JFK New York has been cancelled, while BA 2159 from London Gatwick was diverted to Barbados,” a notice on SLASPA’s official Facebook page said.
“Please be advised that our Engineering Department is presently conducting final assessment for remedial works to execute emergency repairs. This is in an effort to resume normal operations. SLASPA will update Stakeholders on developments accordingly,” the notice said.
