Castries South MP, Dr. Ernest Hilaire has challenged Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and the Comptroller of Customs to come for his vehicle if they want it and face the consequences in the court.

Hilaire issued the challenge in a post on the official Facebook page of the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP).

The post is reproduced below.

Who cares about Law or integrity?

Unlike the Acting Comptroller, Peter Chicot and the Prime Minister, who he is beholden to, I truly believe in the Rule of Law.

I was informed that despite all the exchanges between my lawyers and Chicot, he has given instructions to seize my vehicle. His reason is bizarre and beyond comprehension. He claims he is recalling the pre-delivery because I have not supplied a commercial invoice. A document which is in his possession, having been provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the filing of the Customs entry.

I have not under invoiced nor am I owing any duties to customs, which are reasons why vehicles are normally seized, but when it appears from all the circumstances that the Comptroller is carrying out the dirty political work of the Prime Minister and is prepared to compromise his office and integrity, to please the Prime Minister, so be it.

I have said from day one, if the Prime Minister or Chicot wants the vehicle, come for it and then face the consequences in the Courts. I will not bring it in for sure. But come for it if they want it, no fight no fuss.

Someone is going to pay dearly, very dearly for all the injury and damages. Guess who?
