Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, has expressed pleasure at the success of national carnival events leading up to the Parade of the Bands.

“So far we have had a wonderful season. The national events which took place from last weekend—King and Queen of the Bands, Calypso finals, Panorama, and the National Queen Show—were outstanding successes. Attendance has been excellent.”

As celebrations peak this weekend, Minister Hilaire cautioned Saint Lucians to  be cautious, and adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

“The Government has really made an effort to ensure that we have carnival this year. It has been two difficult years and finally we are getting a chance to return to a sense of normalcy. We remind everyone to be safe, to wear your masks, to sanitize as much as you can. COVID-19 is still a reality and even if we have relaxed the protocols to allow people to enjoy carnival, we still want everyone to recognize that it is their personal responsibility to protect themselves.

“We expect that after the season, more than likely, there will be an increase in cases as it is the nature of the virus and the nature of mass crowd events. Please let us try to minimize those effects, prepare ourselves for any eventuality, and accept personal responsibility.”

  1. Hilaire, you are pleased with carnival but we Marigot residence are not pleased with the road at all. At least do some pot holing for us. Hilaire for your first year in office Marigot people will grade you a FAIL.

  2. Of course he is. Him and his stuck up rich friends are laughing all the way to the bank with their tax exempted income while the little man and woman in lucia is scrunting to make ends meet. These people. None of them. Red or yellow. Do. Not. Care. About. Us.

  3. Good leadership MInister. In other words see for yourself. My personal interests has made their money so if you get sick or covid accept your responsibility. That’s your business. Wow. The minister knows full well that the fragile health service cannot support an increase in covid cases nor any increase in anything. Barbados already has monkeypox. Our next case is only a flight away. Great disclaimer minister. Well done. The minister knows he can fly to Martinique or Miami if he gets sick but what about the average Lucian. So disappointed.

  4. You definitely forgot DEATH! Admitting that more than likely, there will be an increase in cases, you are also admitting that there will be an increase in covid-19 deaths and covid-19 related deaths. The crowds at all the events in the passed 2 weeks, where no mask was worn, have been more clustered than what is expected at the parade of bands, it’s only now you are making an appeal for the use of masks and adhering to protocol? ABSURD. The Omicron Variant BA.5 has been around long before these events started and we know, as normal, that there would be a large contingent of foreigners coming to St Lucia to participate in the carnival events. Just imagine you are asking revelers to act responsibly, with rum and marijuana in the head. They can hardly keep the piece of clothing (costume) on them, you are asking them to put on their mask? WHAT A SERIOUS JOKE FROM A JOKER.

  5. Yeer you can smile now, but do the damn government work and not all this child play with carnival. I don’t think thats what you were elected to do, having a good time in Dubai and now carnival; what next, a home party with the ‘Boys’ not surprising for a deputy with double salary. YOU CAN DO SOME CHARITY WITH SOME OF THAT MONEY AT THE POOR HOUSE, AND BE BLESSED. GOD IS GOOD.

    • Your comments will fall on deaf ears because for it to matter the man has to care. He does not. These people despise the common man and just use them to get into power. St. Lucians need to wake up and realise that we are being played by both sides. They enrich themselves while in power and seat comfortably awaiting their turn when they are not. Rinse repeat. So at the end of the day we are the one left footing the bill for corrupters and squanderers. While they live in the lap of luxury, we struggle. Perhaps we are the curse of Ham, because no other people are betrayed so willingly by their own.
