An inmate whose body was found in a pool of blood at the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) Thursday morning has been identified as an individual who had been declared ‘mentally unfit’ for trial for murder.

Investigators say Kevin Wilson, alias ‘Carlos’ or ‘Goats’  died at the maximum Delta Unit of the BCF.

The investigators disclosed that he was apparently stabbed with a ‘piece of fencing’, but explained that other inmates are tight lipped, asserting that they ‘saw nothing’.

According to information obtained by St Lucia Times, the deceased had been in custody since April 15, 2003 on a charge of murder and was on the list of individuals deemed mentally unfit for trial.

“He was therefore in custody at the court’s pleasure,” an official familiar with the case explained.

Saint Lucia Fire Service (SLFS) Communications Officer, Stacy Joseph, said at approximately 9:35 a.m. the  Dennery Fire Station responded to an emergency call stating that there was an unresponsive inmate at the BCF.

“The emergency crew found on scene a male in his mid-forties lying on his side on the floor.  An assessment of the patient revealed that he was void of vital signs and that he sustained a puncture wound to his abdominal region. The patient was pronounced dead on the scene by a medical practitioner. The scene was subsequently left in the care of the police,” Joseph said.
