Former Saint Lucia Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony asserting that ‘This is Philip’s time’, has told members of the opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) that this country needs SLP leader, Philip J. Pierre.
The former SLP leader, who was the guest speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the party’s Castries East Constituency, explained that his time at helm of party has passed.
“When we had to take the strong and brave decisions we did, even to the alarm and discomfort of our supporters,” Anthony recalled of his time as Prime Minister.
He stated that as he watches and listens, his pride is intact because the country is now reaping the benefits of many of the decisions that were taken.
“This country needs Philip Pierre because he understands the soul of the people of this nation,” the the Vieux Fort South MP declared to applause from his audience at the Bocage Secondary School on Saturday.
“We sat in the same cabinet for three terms. Philip understood the pain, fears and anguish of our people and never failed to advance or plead their cause,” Anthony recalled.
He expressed confidence that Pierre is a man of courage who will to act in the interest of the country when he needs to do so.
Anthony had earlier declared that he has never been afraid for Saint Lucia and its future as now.
According to the former Prime Minister, Saint Lucia is in the midst of the most severe and debilitating economic and social crisis since Independence in 1979.
“Our country is distressed, our people are angry hurt, disappointed and too divided to summon the will to face together the unleashing torrents of despair,” Anthony explained.
