Levern Spencer Happy To Win Gold For Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia’s Levern Spencer who successfully defended her high jump title at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, has declared that she is happy to have struck gold again for her country.

Spencer cleared a height of 1.87m to capture the gold medal on Thursday.

“It’s a great feeling to defend my Pan-Am title,” she told reporters.

Spencer said that was one of her main goals at the games.

She said she knew there would be great competition.

“A lot of people were complaining about the weather – the weather isn’t the best, but I came out there with a mindset of staying positive,” the athlete explained.

“I am just thankful to God that I was able to win another gold medal for Saint Lucia,” she told reporters.

Spencer won ahead of Priscilla Frederick of Antigua and Barbuda, who placed second.

Jamaica’s Kimberly Williamson  was third and fourth was Saint Lucia’s Jeanelle Scheper.

Spencer expressed thanks to all her countrymen who supported and prayed for her.

She noted that even when she does not perform well, they still send encouraging word.

“I just want to thank them for that because it’s not easy when you don’t perform at your best and everyone criticises; so I am still happy for those who still encourage me even if I don’t.”

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet congratulated Spencer in a post on his official Facebook page.

  1. Congratulations Ms. Spencer on your splendid achievements over the years. If there’s a criticism, it will be this: you would have been great if you were able to get over 1.98 on a consistent basis. All the great ones overcame this mark and more.

  2. Only St Lucian born can make us feel proud. Those born out of St Lucia but residing in St Lucia telling us too many lies.
    Congratulations Lavern.

  3. Congrats Levern a lot of people take for granted your hard work and dedication to remain elite in High Jump for over a decade. How many people in Saint Lucia are truly World-class in their respective field? I mean one of the ten best in the entire world ?

    • You need a lot of help, serious mental evaluation, permanent residency at the mental wellness centre. Instead of congratulating the young lady on her achievement you have to bring the worst out of you and the poison pill of politics which is killing this country. Anyways congratulations Lavern. We are indeed proud of you.
