Castries, July 03, 2021 – St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) crews continued working throughout the day on Saturday, July 3, to continue restoration efforts following the passage of Hurricane Elsa on Friday, July 2.
At 7:00 p.m. power had been restored to more than 90% of customers. The major areas still without service are parts of Dennery Valley (Aux Lyon, La Pelle and Belmont), Morne Du Don, Bisee Industrial Estate, a section of York Hill, in the North and parts of Saltibus and Victoria and Columbette to Bouton in the South.
Most of the restoration efforts were hampered by extensive tree trimming, having to rebuild sections of lines and replace damaged infrastructure such as transformers, in some cases, more than our initial damage assessment identified.
There remain some smaller areas across the island that are still without power as a result of a lot of localized faults. The Company understands that customers with these isolated faults may feel like they have been forgotten, but these are being addressed as the larger area faults are resolved. LUCELEC crews and contractors will continue to work diligently to restore power as safely and as quickly as possible to every customer.
Customers can call the following numbers to report localised faults. These are faults specific to one customer or a small area and will be recovered on a needs basis. Customers in the North (from Cap Estate to Dennery) should call 452-2165 and those in the south (from Praslin to Bouton) should call 454-6617 for assistance. Due to the volume of calls, customers may experience some delays in connecting with our Trouble Call Operator. We ask for your patience and to keep trying the lines.
LUCELEC apologises to its customers for the inconvenience caused by the outages and thanks them for their patience while we work to reenergize the entire system.
LUCELEC will provide a further update on Sunday, July 04, 2021.
