LUCELEC receives strike notice

The Saint Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) has received a strike notice which expires on September 9, the General Secretary of the Saint Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA), Claude Paul has disclosed.

According to Paul, there are some unresolved issues at LUCELEC which may warrant some ‘serious action’ in order to get management of the utility to ‘do what is right’.

“You might know that there is a long outstanding agreement – 2011 to 2013 which remains unsigned, because LUCELEC has not inserted in that agreement the grade structure which would indicate where persons fall along the line and what salaries they are entitled to and how they can move along the scale,” the CSA official explained.

He revealed that the unsigned agreement remains a bone of contention and remains unresolved although having gone before a tribunal.

“In addition, the retirement age of public officers had been settled by the tribunal and the latest position from LUCELEC is that they intend to take the matter for judicial review – so in other words, going against the law of the land or challenging the decision of the tribunal,” Paul asserted.

“We believe this is very, very serious and it may necessitate some serious action in the coming weeks,” the trade union official declared.

He said that the CSA is noticing a trend of declining industrial peace.

Paul attributed it to the general approach by employers, including the government.

He made it clear that the CSA is interested in finding solutions rather than being confrontational.

  1. Claude Paul again. Love your country man not your party and the bottle.SLP trying to shut the country down and don’t care who get hurt. Those SLP bloodsuckers missing all their bobol.

  2. The best paid employees in the country with the best compensatory packages are taking industrial action. I wonder how much a tired and overworked general public has sentiment in their favour.

Why don’t you guys go back to work so that the bars and after work lime sessions can continue to collect their monies for Windward and Leeward Brewery.

    • Stop fighting down other workers because they getting better compensated than you. We need to stick together because the “big shot” manager stick together to get their big bonuses and salaries increases. Stop the crab in a bucket mentality

      • Having a protest over job security is retarded. If the current system is inefficient some heads have to roll in the short run for long term prosperity.
