A man whose actions in climbing the exploding La Soufrière Volcano in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were described as ‘dotish’, has been arrested by the police, media reports say.

According to Barbados Today, its team in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines received reports that police picked up Desron Rodriguez on Tuesday afternoon.

But it was not immediately clear what charges the 31-year old is facing.

Despite repeated warnings by Vincentian authorities, Rodrigues, dubbed ‘Lava Man’, climbed La Soufrière multiple times.

And he streamed his actions live on social media.

The last climb occurred on Sunday.

However the lead scientist monitoring  La Soufrière Volcano described the action as ‘dotish’.

Professor Richard Robertson told state-owned NBC Radio that the climb was ‘absolutely foolish’.

And he indicated that it put both those involved and others who may have had to rescue them at risk.
