The Marine Police Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) has confirmed receiving a copy of a short video that has gone viral on social media, in which an armed man in a boat with others issues threats to the occupants of a second vessel.
Both vessels were travelling in the same direction.
It appears that the gunman had a score to settle with another male on board the second vessel and forced it to stop by brandishing his firearm as the boat in which he was travelling caught up with the second vessel.
St Lucia Times was informed that the incident occurred on Sunday, October 28, 2018.
“We were on our way from Jounen Kweyol in Soufriere,” said an individual who claimed to have been among the passengers in the boat that was pursued and targetted by the gunman.
In the video, some females can be heard pleading for the assailant to allow them to get to shore as the gunman’s boat pulls alongside theirs and he and at least one other man board the boat that was being pursued.
There were about six males aboard the boat in which the armed man was travelling.
“I have to talk to dah man – dah man I have to talk to,” the man with the drawn firearm declares before boarding the second boat amid screams from those on board.
The 50 second video ends with an exchange that was not clearly audible as the gunman appears to confront another male.
One individual said to be a passenger in the boat that was boarded sent a message to St Lucia Times indicating that they are still shaken by the incident.
The Marine Police Unit has said that it is in receipt of the video.
But a senior officer told St Lucia Times that the unit does not know when or where the recording was made.
The senior officer also disclosed that the Marine Unit has received no formal complaint from anyone about the incident.
Persons on social media have claimed that the incident at sea may be linked to an early morning shooting incident at Bagatelle on October 29, 2018, that left one man dead and another injured.
