Martinique: Decision pending on expulsion of Dominican family

A decision is  pending on whether a Dominican family will be expelled from Martinique, local news reports say.

The Durands, who have been living in the French overseas territory for the past year after fleeing their hurricane-ravaged country, are awaiting the outcome of an appeal against an order to expel them for staying illegally in Martinique.

The online news publication Martinique 1ere has reported that no decision will be taken until next October, by which time the Administrative Tribunal will consider the appeal lodged by the family lawyer.

The publication said that the Prefect and the Secretary General of the Prefecture Wednesday received a small delegation comprising among others, of the Mayor of the community where the Dominicans have taken up residence and family lawyers.

It reported that a support and solidarity group has been created for the family.

The group is scheduled to meet Thursday in Fort de France.
