Martinique fishers had what local reports described as a miraculous catch of 17 large tunas on Tuesday afternoon.

The unusual haul attracted much attention as news of the catch spread on social media.

Fisherman Fabien Octavia and his crew were identified as the ones who caught the tunas.

The fish, which were cleaned and put in cold storage, were expected to go on sale Wednesday between the municipalities of Prêcheur and Saint-Pierre, according to Martinique 1 ere.

Saint Lucia fishers have also recently experienced unusual fishing success.

Earlier this year Gros Islet fishers celebrated  a massive catch of thousands of flying fish.

In May, two fishers went out to sea about 9.00 am and returned about 9.00 pm with over 5,000 flying fish between them.

They described the catch as ‘unprecedented’.
